And the world-famous alpine skating rink Medeo was built in 1972 and many records were set on its ice. The rink is flooded with clear water from a mountain river. Competitions in speed skating and speedway are held here, in the evenings and at the  weekends are mass skating.
Ice hockey players meet on the Medeо ice, although the most modern ice palaces were built in the city by the 2011 Asian Games, which were also used during the 2017 Universiade. In these winter days, young skaters from all over the world competed on Medeo. And many coaches, who once performed at the foot of the Zailiyskiy Alatau, were happy to return to these places.
Experts argued for a long time over whether to build a roof over the skating rink, but it was decided to leave the legendary Medeо open to all winds and sunlight. Above the rink is a dam, which protected the city from the devastating mudflow in 1973. Mountain rivers are born on glaciers, they flood in the spring and can cause catastrophe.

A hundred meters high, with a button in the elevators, pointing to the 25th floor, built a multi-functional business complex “Almaty Towers”. These buildings are the addition to the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which houses restaurants, business centers and many other organizations.   At the beginning of the twentieth century, a large earthquake occurred in Almaty, after which it was forbidden to erect buildings made of stone. But people only wanted to save the forest, but they needed houses. Each felled tree was taken into account, and foresters worked on planted forests, and the city grew. Plate to plate, without the use of metal pins, nails and hammers, the architect Zenkov built the Cathedral. The cathedral was a museum in Soviet times,  but since Kazakhstan gained its independence, the unique structure acquired its original purpose and became an Orthodox church. Today, there are 28 flowerbeds spread around the cathedral in the park of 28 Panfilov’s heroes, flocks of pigeons fly here, and church-goers and walking city people feed them from their hands.
